Design Release Engineer - Senior
Auburn Hills, MI — Contract Summary: Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for a Design Release Engineer - Senior on a contract basis. What You Will Do
Act as the owner of assigned driveline & axle components (e.g. Axles, RDM, PTU, T-Case, prop shaft, half shaft, brackets, etc.). Execute product design, analysis, release and testing per technical infrastructure and FCA PCPC (the “how”). Be responsible for the complete design and product delivery against technical requirements for the assigned components and products. Develop subject matter expertise for select components or assemblies. Coach entry level engineers as required. Coordinate with suppliers’ product engineering; manage and track supplier activities and deliverables, including supplier test plans and test execution. Prepare product engineering work plans in alignment with program and project timing and milestones. Perform advanced analysis and simulation of actuation mechanisms, including electro-mechanical and servo-hydraulic subsystems. Deliver engineering deliverables in accordance with technical infrastructure and product development process, including reviews and signoffs. Develop technical requirements for components and subsystems of driveline & axles including purchased assemblies. Prepare technical documentation to support supplier quotes and reviews; evaluate designs against engineering best practices; capture lessons learned. Develop DFMEAs and evaluate designs for robustness against failure modes. Develop and execute DVP&R plans to validate new designs and design changes, including DRBTR; support system DVP&Rs. Develop tools, test procedures and acceptance criteria for driveline & axles, components, subassemblies and purchased assemblies. Collaborate with design detailing and CAE activities; ensure transfer functions and physics-based analyses are defined for actuation subsystems and components. Deliver EBOM, models, drawings for components, subassemblies, and purchased assemblies. Generate engineering documentation to support change management, including DRBFM. Deliver parts/hardware to pilot builds and requisition prototypes as needed. Collaborate with transmission and driveline SMEs and other stakeholders to address failures using appropriate tools and processes. Prepare status reports and presentations for management and the CE organization. Support manufacturing on production-related issues and contribute to cost reduction initiatives. Participate in warranty/cost reduction meetings and develop solutions for warranty issues. Conduct root cause analysis of driveline & axle failures and identify root causes. Conduct Layered Process Audits at supplier plants for assigned components. Basics
5 years experience minimum. Bachelor of Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering or similar. 2 years of experience in automotive industry or product engineering design, validation and engineering projects with OEM and/or tier suppliers; or a high-potential graduate with automotive knowledge. Understanding of vehicle functions and general vehicle architecture. Understanding of automotive manufacturing and quality processes. Advanced English language skills (Read/Write). Proficient with MS Office. Leadership, organization, planning, decision making, and strategic thinking skills. Ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and drive change through communication and experience. Proactive, self-driven, teamwork oriented; able to work under pressure with strong communication skills. Problem-solving training; ability to manage multiple complex projects; ability to lead and manage suppliers. Willingness to travel to supplier and corporate plants (USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe or Asia). Experience with NX/CATIA; DFMEA; DVP&R; and GD&T. Preferred
Master’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering. Green/Black Belt in Shainin or DFSS. Experience in transmission, driveline & axles or related area. Knowledge of Stellantis systems and/or products. CAE/CFD experiences with powertrain structures; CAN communications fundamentals.
