This role will support production activities within our operations. The Automation Technician will provide technical expertise to the organization within the role by repairing and troubleshooting production automation and secondary equipment related to injection molding. This position requires a hands-on approach. Candidates must be self-driven with strong problem-solving abilities and be a strong team-player. Leadership and initiative skills are needed to demonstrate required performance. The role reports to the Automation Supervisor and Production Supervisor. Responsibilities
The primary role can include any combination of the following, but is not limited to: Repairing and troubleshooting production automation and secondary equipment, including lugging machines and lugging operations. Diagnosing causes and implementing long-term corrective action, making necessary repairs, verifying effectiveness and collecting necessary data. Perform set-ups and changeovers of automated equipment in production as required. Perform safety checks of automated equipment. Assist in training other automation technicians. This role will include some or all the following: Performing intermediate electrical wiring. Performing intermediate pneumatic repair. Performing intermediate industrial inspection camera repairs. Installing and troubleshooting components of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical circuits. Drawing and revising circuits for modifications. Apply intermediate PLC concepts and PLC troubleshooting. Order replacement components and tooling, as needed. Perform robot troubleshooting and position teaching. Validating performance of automation equipment, establishing a production rate, and recording information on P-Data form. Assist in improving run time and scrap reduction. Fine-tuning machines to improve efficiency, machine utilization, safety, and automation. Troubleshoots internal logic online with laptop. Understanding drawings and symbols. Troubleshooting servo motors, servo valves, proportional valves, and robotics. Verifying performance and establishing a production rate and recording on work orders. Visually and dimensionally inspecting parts per designated control plans and procedures. Interpreting SPC charts and performing other required statistics, including Cpk and tolerance interval studies. Interpreting blueprints. Studying part prints in relation to molding, automation, or second operations. Developing and implementing company training on general automation skills. Maintaining a clean shop and spare components areas. Applying company guiding principles while carrying out job duties. Other duties as may be assigned. Minimum Education and/or Designation Requirements
A two-year degree in Automation/Robotics, or a combination of automation experience/training. Minimum Work Experience Requirements
Must have held a position in an automation or production field for at least 3 years. Minimum Training Requirements
Mechanical work experience, preferably in the assembly and disassembly of mechanical mechanisms. Automated machine maintenance. Automated machine electrical controls design. Automated machine pneumatic & hydraulic systems. Other Requirements
Not required skills or training: Must have a thorough understanding of automated valves, shaft alignment, balancing & vibration and linear drives. Must have a thorough understanding of automation design, construction, service and troubleshooting techniques. Blueprint interpretation. Understanding of measuring equipment, Metrology and GD&T principles. Reporting and scheduling procedures. Automation controls layout design. Servo systems understanding. Pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Safety systems and guarding design, build and wiring. Must have experience in using Omron PLCs and HMIs. PLC understanding, programming, and wiring. HMI understanding, programming, and wiring. Industrial robot understanding, programming, and wiring. Industrial camera inspection systems understanding, programming, and wiring. Experience in using general machine shop equipment, including milling machines, grinders, cutoff saws, and drills. Machining knowledge and practices. Strong computer skills. Must be self-driven with strong problem-solving abilities. Must be a strong team-player and be able to teach others. Must be able to prioritize tasks and successfully multi-task. Must be able to manage and balance multiple projects. Must have a desire to work in a hands-on and fast-paced manufacturing environment. Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 pounds Working with hands requiring dexterity Use step ladders/stools Frequent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling and lying on the floor Working Environment
Indoor production/manufacturing environment consisting of plastic injection molding machines and automation equipment. Automation fabrication shop/office Heated and cooled production environment May be exposed to machine heat exceeding 100 F.
