Base Pay Range $124,000.00/yr - $165,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities Develop low noise laser and electro-optical systems to support high-fidelity two-qubit gates in future quantum computers Provide lasers and optics support to a team of R&D scientists developing both commercial and research systems for quantum computing Install, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial laser systems (training provided) Integrate complex, high precision optical sub-assemblies into higher level systems and maintain them Trouble shoot as well as conduct failure analysis of electro-optical-mechanical systems to improve process and design Collect and analyze data to improve subsystem robustness and key performance parameters You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Scientists to deliver state-of-the-art optics solutions
Qualifications Ph.D. completed prior to start Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person. defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
What We Value Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics, or related field 5+ years (degree-inclusive) experience using and maintaining laser systems 5+ years (degree-inclusive) experience with free-space optical system alignment and assembly 5+ years (degree-inclusive) experience using and maintaining fiber optic components 5+ years (degree-inclusive) hands-on experience utilizing electro-optical laboratory equipment (e.g., beam profilers, wavemeters, acousto- and electro-optical modulators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) Experience characterizing, stabilizing, and servoing diode, fiber, and/or Ti:Sapphire lasers Substantial RF knowledge particularly with AOM, EOM, and laser feedback/control/servo systems Demonstrated experience with lens design (Zemax, Code V, OSLO, etc) and/or computer aided design (CAD) software for designing optical and optomechanical systems and design tolerancing for optical hardware deliverables Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research. Experience in post-doctoral research positions or other mentorship positions Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills
