Job Summary Radiation therapists work under the guidance of radiation oncologists to administer prescribed radiation treatment to cancer patients. Their responsibilities include performing patient treatments, machine warmups, calculations, simulations, and ensuring radiation safety measures. Operating specialized equipment, such as linear accelerators, they deliver precise radiation to specific areas of the body while closely monitoring patients, maintaining records, and providing emotional support. This role requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Responsibilities
Uses the information provided by simulation, dosimetry and Radiation Oncologists to consistently and accurately set up patients for daily treatments.
Be aware of radiation safety policies as they relate to the operation of the equipment and protection of the patient.
Performs and documents treatments in accordance with the planning documentation provided by simulation, dosimetry, and Radiation Oncologist. Able to perform radiation therapy procedures including but not limited to 3D, IMRT, and CT Simulation.
Perform Linear Accelerator warm-up procedures. Documents variations and elevates to Physics/Service.
Perform CT simulator warm-up procedures. Documents variations and elevates to Physics/Service.
Maintains equipment and reports machine errors to Physics/Service as required.
Credentials And Qualifications
Associate's degree; In lieu of Associate degree, a high school diploma/ GED may be considered if ARRT certification obtained prior to January 1, 2015.
BLS certification
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - (ARRT) RT(T)
Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
Preferred Experience 1 year of previous radiation therapy experience.
