Overview
Physician Assistant, Acute Care - Ob/Gyn (Night/Weekend) role at UTHealth Houston. The Physician Assistant provides advanced medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in a clinic or hospital setting under the direction of a physician. This position requires night and weekend coverage in the Obstetric Emergency Department at Memorial Hermann Hospitals where UT OBGYN provides hospitalist coverage, at Memorial City and Cypress locations. Responsibilities
Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures that would otherwise be performed by a physician, but do not constitute the practice of medicine. Conduct independent and physician-supervised rounding on units. Perform patient evaluations and assessments, provide appropriate treatment, monitor and order medications. Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient’s plan of care. Assist in collecting patient histories, screen for co-morbidities, and provide guidance and preventative health care as needed. Perform physical examinations and provide episodic or problem-oriented care under physician supervision. Order and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests; monitor treatment programs and inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information. Facilitate patient education related to medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion. Assist physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions; maintain appropriate records and prepare chart documentation for review. Prepare supplies and equipment; respond to emergency situations; perform within licensure and certification scope of practice. Perform other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills
Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant Current Physician Assistant certification (NCCPA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or department-specific certification Proficiency with medical and surgical instruments and equipment required for the role Education & Experience
Minimum Education: Master’s degree as Physician Assistant; or Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of professional experience in the role (based on terminal degree requirements at graduation) Minimum Experience: None required; prior experience in area of clinical focus preferred Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Residency
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas. Employment Type
