GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION : Solano Community College is actively seeking highly qualified applicants for part-time adjunct anatomy and/or physiology teaching positions in the biology department. The successful candidate, meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, will be responsible for teaching various areas of chemistry. Assignments will be available in the fall, spring, and summer terms. The ideal candidate can demonstrate a wide range of teaching strategies to facilitate effective student learning. Our experienced faculty are eager to support new instructors. We utilize state-of-the-art human cadaver dissection labs to prepare students for careers in health sciences. We value instructors who care about students, pedagogy, and community. We seek individuals willing to take risks to achieve these goals. JOB DESCRIPTION: This position involves teaching human cadaver-based anatomy and/or human physiology. The successful candidate will teach courses such as BIO 4 (anatomy) and BIO 5 (physiology), including labs with human cadaver dissection and histology slide examination. The candidate may teach various related courses based on their expertise and strengths. Collaboration with faculty and the use of technology, equitable practices, and active learning strategies are expected. Instruction may be at the Fairfield campus or other district locations, including evening and weekend hours. In your cover letter, please address any specific areas of expertise. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The role involves working in small or large rooms, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and blood-borne pathogens, requiring adherence to safety protocols. Physical demands include lifting at least 50 pounds and moving around classrooms. Technology use is extensive, including long hours on screens and online communication tools. Candidates must have good vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and the ability to operate computers and equipment. Responsibilities Duties may include: Providing instruction in anatomy, physiology, and related biology areas, following the Faculty Handbook. Collaborating with faculty and laboratory technicians to ensure safe and efficient lab operations, including handling cadaver collections and compliance with UCSF Willed Body Program rules. Maintaining current knowledge and skills in anatomy and physiology, updating course content as needed. Demonstrating sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds. Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of Math and Science. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must possess: A commitment to encouraging learning and a positive attitude toward student success. Sensitivity to students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. AND Master’s degree in biological sciences OR a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences plus a master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science. Alternatively, the equivalent, with degrees from accredited institutions, supported by a completed equivalency request form. Desired Qualifications: Hands-on knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with cadaver dissection experience preferred. Clinical or academic background adding new perspectives. Understanding of health science career paths such as nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, medicine, dental hygiene, sonography, and radiography. Experience demonstrating professional excellence, enthusiasm for teaching, and a commitment to student success. High moral and ethical standards, collaboration skills, and excellent communication. Initiative, community engagement, and participation in governance. Ability to self-evaluate, accept feedback, and pursue professional growth.
