Saint Joseph East, a 217-bed community hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, is part of CHI Saint Joseph Health within CommonSpirit Health. This role contributes to the safe, efficient operation of the surgical suite by assisting physicians, circulating RNs and anesthesia personnel during surgical procedures, and by ensuring proper setup and care of instruments and equipment on the sterile field. Responsibilities include supporting the flow of the surgical schedule and operating room operations, maintaining patient care with professionalism and dignity, and complying with hospital standards of excellence and professional appearance. Assist the physician, circulating RNs and anesthesia personnel during all levels of surgical procedures. Set up instruments/equipment on the sterile field and clean procedural equipment during procedures. Coordinate with the team to ensure smooth flow of the surgical schedule and operating room. Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Maintain confidentiality of information in the surgical suite and department. Deliver high quality care in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner, following standards of excellence and behavior. Provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of RNs. Care for, handle, and process all equipment and instruments. Prepare and set up for all surgical procedures, ensuring the correct equipment and supplies are available. Assist physicians with equipment and supplies as needed. Have knowledge of complex and therapeutic procedures performed in the unit. Set up and assist with out-of-department cases at the bedside or in the OR as necessary. Pass sterile instruments during surgery in anticipation of the surgeon’s needs. Able to recognize and communicate patient issues to the RN or physician during the procedure. Maintain supplies and stock procedure rooms and travel carts during downtime. Track locations and maintain inventory of equipment. Disinfect and clean scopes and equipment according to SGNA/ASGE standards and hospital policy. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
