Responsibilities
Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs, modifications to aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.
Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and provide solutions by interpreting technical data such as blueprints and manufacturer manuals.
Has a comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, sheetmetal/structural modification and repair, and the ability to determine functionality of complex electrical systems.
Uses aircraft hand tools, special tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, and maintains accuracy in logbooks and records (CAMS entries).
Performs inspections (preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, phase inspections) and conducts operational checks of all aircraft systems.
Launches and recovers aircraft as required and ensures aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
Operates all related ground support equipment and uses tools and fixtures applicable to aircraft; performs all ground movement tasks for aircraft.
Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms and completes associated CAMS entries; upholds housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness and safety at all times.
Assists with other qualified duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment.
Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and ability to operate portable firefighting equipment.
Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
Ability to routinely lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, lift, bend, push, and pull for extended periods; frequently climb or work in small spaces; ladder work and working at heights up to 40 feet.
Valid A&P license with five years aviation maintenance experience, five years rotary wing experience, and two years on the assigned MDS. All experience must be within the ten most recent years.
If no A&P license, five years aviation maintenance experience, five years rotary wing experience, and two years on the assigned MDS.
All mechanics must meet FAA requirements for maintenance on FAA certified aircraft.
Experience to inspect aeronautical type maintenance at skill level Mechanic I; capability to repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
Combination of experience to repair engines, sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; basic knowledge of electrical theory; thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools.
Ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
Driver’s license and High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must provide own tools/toolbox; tools must be shadowed and etched with PID.
This position falls under Fort Hood CBA but location assignment for the LUH Mission is Laredo, TX.
Clearance Requirements
Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance and facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.
Physical Requirements
Work conditions may range from minimal to inclement, including exposure to temperature changes, wind, rain, or snow.
May be exposed to high noise hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
Electrical shock hazards may be present.
Must be able to routinely lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform duties involving standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
Frequently required to climb or balance, work in small spaces, ladder work, and at heights up to 40 feet.
