Our patient population includes children with neurodevelopmental or behavioral concerns, autism, intellectual disability, high-risk infant follow-up, mental/emotional/behavioral problems (MEB), neuro-motor disabilities (e.g., cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders), and children at risk due to early childhood adversity. Patients are seen in the new Riverside Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Center (opening late 2024) and the Battle Building (outpatient) of UVA Health Children's Hospital, adjacent to UVA Health Medical Center, as well as various rural outreach clinics. We collaborate with pediatric psychology experts in autism, behavior, and issues affecting underserved families. Additionally, we have numerous shared interdisciplinary clinics with neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, PT, OT, SLP, SW, nutrition, educational consultants, and family navigators.

NDBP co-hosts one of the prestigious HRSA Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) programs called Blue Ridge LEND, focusing on training the next generation of interdisciplinary trainees in developmental disabilities, especially in rural and underserved areas. The division has a longstanding Developmental and Behavioral Pediatric fellowship program, is actively involved in the UVA pediatric residency program, and supports a highly competitive medical school, all located within walking distance of the medical center. The NDBP division maintains a strong relationship with the School of Education, where the Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) center is based. The division collaborates on autism-related international and national research projects, as well as clinical and educational initiatives related to autism.

UVA Health comprises the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, University Physicians Group (UPG), and the Medical Center. The Medical Center is a 735-bed, level 1 trauma center serving as the primary hospital for central Virginia. UVA Health Children’s is ranked as Virginia’s top children’s hospital by US News and World Report and is nationally ranked in five subspecialties. The University of Virginia, located in Charlottesville, is renowned as a top public institution, offering a diverse, cultured, and scenic environment surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Charlottesville is ranked among the best places to live in the U.S., known for its rich history and quality of life.

Qualifications Candidates must have an MD/DO and be board-eligible or board-certified in developmental-behavioral pediatrics.
