Overview The Ultrasound Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist or physician, performs ultrasound procedures in ambulatory and/or hospital environments as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.

Responsibilities

Perform high quality ultrasound procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintain production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.

Utilize AIDET when communicating with patients to identify service requirements, ensure correct exam, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their families regarding the test and assesses patient tolerance.

Prepare patient and area for procedure by positioning the patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into position, and setting exposure factors.

Protect patients and staff by adhering to safety, infection-control, drug and radiation policies and techniques. Use proper sterile techniques for invasive multimodality procedures and maintain hand hygiene.

Maintain equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Coordinate with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation. Assist in maintaining supplies inventory. Screen individuals entering the department per approved policies and procedures.

Obtain, verify, and maintain relevant documentation (requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.).

Adhere to system workflows (PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, BioMed services) and maintain timely medical imaging records according to department policies.

Ability to provide services timely, accurately, and cost-effectively in compliance with system and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.

Maintain a calm and helpful attitude under stress and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.

Able to administer first aid and use the emergency cart when needed.

Strive for patient satisfaction by minimizing wait times, providing courteous service, and acting on patient satisfaction feedback as needed.

Maintain knowledge and continuing education in care for age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric as appropriate to the department.

Ability to train new team members and support new services and initiatives.

Willingness to take call, if required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - ARRT-BS Breast Sonography (ARRT-BS), ARRT-S Sonography (ARRT-S), Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK), Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB), Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR), Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB), Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS), Registered Vascular Tech (RVT); Registered in one of: ARDMS (OB/GYN/AB/BR/MSK) or ARRT(S) or CCI (RVS).
