Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Studies Job Category: Academic Leadership Requisition Number: DEANO001208 Posted: September 25, 2025 Full Time | On-site Monmouth University seeks a visionary, collaborative and innovative leader who will serve as the next Dean of the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Applications received by November 1, 2025 will receive full consideration. The Dean provides overall leadership for the school and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate in a health-related academic discipline; a distinguished record of academic achievement including effective teaching in higher education (undergraduate and graduate), scholarly activity and service at a level consistent with the appointment to rank of Professor with tenure; demonstrated successful progressive administrative experience in higher education; and experience in accreditation processes, state certification rules, regulations, and codes. The Dean provides fiscal management and advances department and programmatic initiatives, research, curricular innovations, and other activities. The Dean facilitates efforts to recruit, develop and retain diverse and highly qualified faculty, and makes recommendations on hiring, tenure, promotion, and faculty reappointment. The Dean will also maintain accreditation standards, requirements, and reporting for all programs. The Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies offers programs in nursing, health and physical education, physician assistant, occupational therapy. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position. Articulate and advocate the mission and goals of the School of Nursing and Health Studies; provide strategic leadership of the School. Represent the School to internal and external constituents; collaborate with state and private agencies, hospitals, and educational institutions to promote nursing and health science education. Oversee fiscal management of the School and departmental budgets. Provide academic leadership and oversight of program reviews for accredited and non-accredited programs to improve quality and align with University strategy and accrediting standards. Lead curriculum innovation and excellence; oversee general education within the School; oversee class scheduling for undergraduate and graduate programs. With Graduate Studies, lead development of innovative graduate degree and certified programs in traditional and non-traditional delivery modes. Supervise and provide strategic leadership to the Dean's Office; support professional development of faculty and staff; recruit and develop Department Chairs and Administrators. Recruitment, evaluation, and recommendations on hiring, tenure, promotion and reappointment of faculty and staff; provide student support and mentoring. Serve on University committees; interact with advisory councils; lead meetings of Department Chairs and leaders. Collaborate with Marketing, Communications and Enrollment Management to develop advertising and marketing plans for academic programs. Support fundraising and donor relations in support of School and University priorities. Report to the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs; participate in special assignments as requested. Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in one of the School's disciplines or a related field. At least five (5) years of progressive administrative experience in higher education with leadership of undergraduate and graduate programs. Distinguished record of academic accomplishments including teaching, scholarship, and service at tenure-level standards. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Preferred Qualifications
Licensure eligible if appropriate; experience mentoring faculty and students; program development and accreditation expertise. Financial and budgetary experience; success in securing external funding and donor relations. Experience with interdisciplinary program development and oversight of academic institutes; community engagement; awareness of health sciences education trends. Commitment to student professional development and building a strong leadership team. Experience with various faculty modalities; willingness to train candidates as needed. Benefits and Schedule
