Associate Director, External Innovation Strategic Assessment - Data Science & Digital Health
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks an Associate Director to identify and evaluate AI/ML technologies that drive transformative impact across JJIM R&D. The research‑intensive position focuses on deep technical analysis, conducting comprehensive landscaping of emerging technologies, producing actionable assessments and supporting rapid and strategic evaluations.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough landscaping and assessment of AI/ML trends and technologies for differentiation, quality, scalability, and utility for JJIM R&D.
Deliver both rapid assessments and longer‑term strategic reviews of external technologies and opportunities.
Participate in detailed technical due diligence of potential external collaborators, providing insights to support decision‑making.
Develop and present findings tailored to different audiences—ranging from concise summaries to detailed technical reports.
Collaborate with DSDH AI/ML External Innovation, R&D Data Science & Digital Health leadership, and across R&D to shape overall strategic direction based on rigorous technical evaluation.
Collaborate effectively with senior leaders, scientists and cross‑functional teams in J&J.
Qualifications
PhD or MA in Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning & AI, Physics, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biology.
5 years relevant experience.
Extremely engaged with tracking and analyzing the latest developments in AI/ML for life sciences R&D.
Strong interdisciplinary fluency across scientific and computational domains (“bilingual” capability).
Excellent strategic thinking, business acumen, and communication skills.
Proven ability to synthesize complex technical information into clear, actionable insights, as well as detail technical reports.
Base Pay Range $137,000 – $235,750
