Base pay range $50,000.00/yr - $75,000.00/yr
Position Overview The Quality Assurance Supervisor is a member of the Quality Assurance team. Under the direct supervision of the Director of QA & Food Safety, the Quality Assurance Supervisor provides support to the Quality Control staff members and overall daily operations of the QA department at the assigned location in conjunction with the corporate facility. This position helps ensure that all duties within the QA department are accomplished and supports the corporate Quality and Food Safety initiatives through execution of food safety and quality plans, and auditing of facilities and employee practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards. This position also requires a solid understanding of food safety standards, employee safety standards, sanitary guidelines, and current Good Manufacturing practices, and a good understanding of quality related programs including Food Defense, Food Allergen, and government regulatory programs (e.g., Product Recalls, FSMA, and LACF Regulations). SQF certification is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in updating and maintaining company food safety program to comply with the FDA FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule
Assist in developing, updating and maintaining all quality related procedures, programs and protocols in harmony with corporate procedures (e.g., pre-requisite programs including cGMP’s, SOP, SSOP, Allergen Control, Food Defense, Pest Control, and operational prerequisite programs)
Perform in‑house inspections for compliance, issues CAR’s and verifies effectiveness of corrective action
Maintain all documentation in conjunction with the corporate Supplier Verification Program
Evaluate and verify COA’s of materials and products, and maintain all associated documentation at the assigned location
Conduct product shelf life studies and maintain a product retention program
Update and maintain all receiving, production and outgoing logs at the assigned location; review all completed logs for completeness and to verify all operational limits, preventative controls, and food safety and quality control points are within limits; keep accurate and legible records at assigned location
Conduct annual employee GMP, food safety and quality training programs and maintain all form records at the assigned location
Assist in investigation and responses to customer complaints. Track complaints, collect and analyze data for identification of trends, and write Corrective Action Reports to document deviations from the existing programs
Actively participate in weekly QA conference and keep minutes
Designated as the Back‑up PCQI (Preventive Control Qualified Individual)
Other tasks as assigned
Specific Tasks
QA Analysis of finished products: water activity, moisture, yeast and mold, TVC
Daily environmental monitoring of facility (including ATP swabbing, allergen verification, TVC, and certain pathogens)
Maintaining lab supplies and equipment
Data entry and filing of daily logs
Perform daily equipment calibration
Oversee daily pre and post operation activities at assigned location
Preparing and sending samples to third party lab as needed
Maintain inventory management finished product of waste, expired, returns, donations, samples
Oversee Pest Control Program
Assist with internal label review
Supervise QA technicians on the floor to verify processes, including the monitoring of temperature during the production process
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or equivalent experience
Interest and willingness to learn about food safety, quality, and regulatory issues
Experience following and promoting food safety and quality programs
Ability to be adaptable and flexible
Self‑motivated and able to work independently with instruction
Detail oriented and possess organizational skills
Good written and verbal communication skills in English, Bilingual Spanish is a plus
Confident and adaptable personality with excellent customer service
Able to communicate and work with others in team setting
Basic computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office products, Adobe, etc.
