The Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator to join the WIC Program.
Responsibilities
Support establishing program goals and objectives by assisting in developing the annual Breastfeeding Service Plan.
Monitor breastfeeding reports (i.e., Infant Breastfeeding Mostly Receiving Formula, Breastfeeding Contacts, Breastfeeding High Risk, and Pregnant Women Expecting).
Plan, schedule, and coordinate Peer Counselor and National Breastfeeding Month activities.
Evaluate the performance of Peer Counselors biannually; conduct bi-monthly meetings with counselors.
Participate in the recruitment and hiring of Peer Counselors.
Arrange and assist in the training and continuing education of Peer Counselors following State and Local Agency policies.
Mentor Peer Counselors by providing routine follow-up and guidance, including close supervision.
Oversee and maintain the local agencies' breastfeeding services inventory in the WOW system.
Attend all state-related Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator/promotion committee meetings.
Review and order breastfeeding materials from the state distribution center.
Oversee counseling for prenatal and breastfeeding participants and their babies.
Oversee Peer Counselors’ attendance and daily assignments.
Monitor the MS Teams Breastfeeding Channel.
Assist with other duties assigned by the Senior Nutritionist Manager or Local Agency Coordinator.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in breastfeeding education, management, and support.
Knowledge of basic nutrition education.
Must be flexible and willing to travel to various locations.
Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Two years related experience, with some supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Credentials of an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), or have other certification in lactation management (CLE, CLC), or state-approved training in lactation management.
Demonstrated experience working effectively with low-income, multicultural populations and the public.
Prior WIC experience.
Fluent in Spanish.
One year of experience counseling breastfeeding women.
Prior supervisory experience.
