Customs Specialist, Entry Writer – DSV Global Transport and Logistics

Location: USA – Itasca, IL Job Type: Full Time

Summary The Customs Specialist is responsible for managing customs-related processes and ensuring compliance with customs regulations within the transportation and logistics industry. They facilitate the smooth flow of goods across borders by handling customs documentation, resolving issues, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of customs requirements. The role helps minimize delays and maximize efficiency in customs clearance.

Duties And Responsibilities

Prepare and review customs documentation, including import and export declarations.

Ensure compliance with customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin requirements.

Coordinate with internal teams, clients, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations and procedures.

Stay informed about changes in regulations, trade agreements, and industry practices.

Handle customs inquiries, investigations, and disputes.

Monitor and track customs clearances and resolve delays or issues.

Collaborate with customs authorities and participate in programs such as C-TPAT or AEO.

Educational Background / Work Experience

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in customs operations or customs brokerage.

Strong knowledge of customs regulations, processes, and documentation.

Familiarity with import and export operations and customs clearance procedures.

Skills & Competencies

In-depth understanding of customs regulations and requirements.

Proficiency in preparing and reviewing customs documentation.

Attention to detail and accuracy in declarations and record-keeping.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of valuation and classification methodologies.

Familiarity with international trade agreements and requirements.

Proficiency in using customs management software and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain management, or a related field.

Certification in customs compliance or a related area.

Experience across various industries and commodities.

Familiarity with customs automation systems and software.

Experience in customs audits and compliance assessments.

Language Skills

Fluent in English (oral and written).

Computer Literacy

Proficient in using customs management software and systems.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and technology platforms used in the transportation and logistics industry.

Base pay for this position is approximately

$22.50



$30.50

per hour. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors.
