Mechanic: General Maintenance (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) at Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Performs semi-skilled and skilled general maintenance tasks within school facilities, including repairs and installations related to building structure, roofing, and interior/exterior components/finishes. Position Summary

General Maintenance Mechanic Performs semi-skilled and skilled general maintenance tasks within school facilities. Performs a variety of repairs and installations related to building structure, roofing, and interior/exterior components/finishes. Additional Work Days/Hours

Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Ability to work flexible schedules Emergencies Evenings/Nights Extended hours Holidays Inclement weather conditions On call Outside of normal business hours Overtime as needed Peak season Shift work Summer hours Weekends Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Installs, repairs and replaces all types of door and window hardware, floor finishes, metal framed drywall partitions, finishing drywall, window sashes/door jambs, cabinets, stair treads, handrails, suspended ceiling tile and T&G ceiling tile. Repairs and replaces floor finishes (VCT, carpet, quarry tile, etc.) and masonry/block work (brick, concrete). Evaluates, installs, and repairs roofing materials, flashing, exterior trim, soffit, rain gutters, down spouts; cleans roof drains. Replaces single and thermal panes in windows, doors, and showcases. Cuts, fits, and joins lumber and plastic laminate for cabinetry, bookcases, and countertops. Sizes, orders, mortises, borings, fits, and hangs wood/metal doors and blanks. Installs and repairs specialty items (chalkboards, bulletin boards, smart boards, bleachers, lockers, toilet partitions, overhead doors, folding partitions, etc.). Paints interior and exterior surfaces of buildings. Performs other related duties within the same classification or lower. Minimum Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required. Experience Three (3) years general maintenance/construction or related experience required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics

Knowledge of basic construction methods and procedures. Knowledge of and experience in basic carpentry (layout, framing, sheathing). Ability to use various shop and hand power tools including saws, drills, woodworking and welding machines. Ability to work independently and meet goals across multiple trades. Ability to read and apply work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, drawings and specifications; refer to manufacturer manuals. Ability to practice and enforce safety regulations; knowledge of hazardous materials procedures. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and use business technology tools (e.g., e-mail, intranet, Microsoft Office). Provide basic hand tools. Licenses and Certifications

Driver's License Class C Non-Commercial required; valid driving record. Driving Requirements
