SSI is seeking an RF Engineering Technician with a broad range of experience in communications systems to work onsite in San Diego, CA (Topside). The successful candidate will have opportunity to perform with self-driven autonomy to meet system engineering objectives. The work will be generally performed in designated facilities, and the candidate will benefit from a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
This position involves development, execution, and maintenance of a compliance test program for MUOS, a WCDMA-based satellite system. As a support staff to a DoD organization, a successful candidate will be part of a larger team developing and executing a certification test program, spanning technical, functional, and performance requirements.
This position will expect the candidate to become well-versed on a vast quantity of information and eventually grow towards the Sr. Systems Engineer. This offers significant opportunity to grow in breadth of knowledge and experience, working with large organizations, third party vendors, hands-on test equipment, live and test systems, security concepts, diagrams and models, configuration management, troubleshooting, and, at times, reverse-engineering.
Requirements
2+ years of experience in a System Engineering or System Analyst position, with a focus on communications systems and protocols
Bachelors in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field is desired
Experience in supporting MUOS Waveform and MUOS MIL-STD Development, Testing and Engineering or similar knowledge of Military Satellite Waveform, Military SATCOM and MIL-STD Development & Testing and Engineering.
Basic understanding of security principles (COMSEC equipment, key management, PKI maybe)
Basic understanding of networking principles (IP addresses, basic routing protocols, linux and windows, subnets, default routes, etc…)
Junior-to-mid level scripting languages: perl, python, bash/shell, or javascript.
Communication principles (ideally wireless, cellphone technology such as 3G/4G-LTE/5G or WCDMA, CDMA, signal processing knowledge
Familiarity with Test Equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, noise generators
Experience with cellular technology highly desired
Comfortable with Microsoft tools: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Outlook, TEAMs,
Able to communicate clearly, summarize work, write reports, and interface with internal and external customers.
MUST possess an active Secret clearance.
