Position Summary: The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with particular research emphasis in solidification science and metal casting are of particular interest.

Detailed Position Information: The University invites applications for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at all ranks within the MTE department. This posting is specific for candidates applying for the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications from candidates with strong scholarly productivity who would seek appointment at Associate or Full Professor should apply through related postings.

The MTE department offers a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and has active M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. The department and college emphasize teaching, research, and service, with a focus on building a productive, externally funded research program and collaborating across the department and college.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels and contribute to the department’s accreditation and educational mission. The University seeks candidates who support a collegial and inclusive community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated record of research and impactful publications in metal casting and solidification science.

Interest and/or record in metallurgical engineering, materials science, and/or materials science education and professional service in the area of specialization.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Potential to construct and sustain a quality research program.

Potential for excellent teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Applicants must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Record of high-quality research and publications recognized nationally or internationally.

Strong scholarship in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or related departments with undergraduate and graduate programs.

Post-doctoral or comparable post-graduate experience.

Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.
