Manufacturing Engineer III at Ascentec Engineering, LLC — serve as the senior technical authority for complex manufacturing processes, combining deep machining expertise with advanced engineering leadership. This role supports manufacturing cost estimation, process optimization, and technical mentorship while driving strategic manufacturing initiatives. The position requires extensive hands-on machining knowledge, the ability to analyze complex engineering drawings for manufacturability, and proven leadership in cross-functional project management. Responsibilities
Serve as the senior technical authority for complex manufacturing processes. Analyze complex multi-operation engineering drawings to determine optimal machining sequences, operation breakdowns, and manufacturing flow. Evaluate GD&T requirements to establish critical machining parameters and quality control points. Assess part geometry for manufacturability and provide design feedback to optimize production efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Determine fixturing strategies, work holding solutions, and multi-setup coordination for complex precision components. Collaborate with CAM programming, machinists, and cross-functional teams to support multi-axis operations (including 4th and 5th axis). Calculate accurate cycle times for setup, machining, in-process inspection, and changeovers with ±5% accuracy. Troubleshoot machining issues including vibration, tool wear, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish problems; perform root-cause analyses for containment of issues related to machine repeatability and volume. Lead manufacturing readiness reviews ensuring smooth transition from prototype to production. Develop detailed work instructions, setup sheets, and quality control procedures for production implementation. Mentor Manufacturing Engineers I & II in advanced machining concepts, process optimization, and problem-solving methodologies. Lead cross-functional teams and facilitate knowledge sharing, design reviews, and best-practice documentation. Qualifications
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering. 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience with progressive technical and leadership responsibility. 5+ years of project leadership experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives. Proven track record of successful new product introductions from concept through high-volume production. Technical Expertise Expert-level machining knowledge: CNC machining operations, multi-axis programming, tooling selection, feeds/speeds optimization, and advanced setup procedures. Manufacturing cost estimation: ability to analyze drawings and develop accurate cost estimates with cycle time analysis. Advanced CAD/CAM skills: SolidWorks, CAM programming, manufacturing simulation, and process modeling. ERP Systems: proficiency in Epicor or similar manufacturing systems for process planning, costing, and project management. Quality systems knowledge: ISO 9001, AS9100, statistical process control, and regulatory compliance. Leadership, Communication & Personal Attributes Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and mentor junior engineering personnel. Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to senior management, customers, and suppliers. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions. Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities and tight deadlines. Self-starter, detail-oriented, reliable, team player with a positive customer-focused attitude. Working Conditions
Onsite manufacturing floor presence for process analysis and team collaboration; some office-based work for project management, cost analysis, and documentation. Occasional travel to supplier facilities, customer sites, and industry conferences. Physical requirements include walking, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
