AID is looking to hire a full-time, entry level engineer to provide geotechnical and materials engineering field and design services throughout New Jersey, the Philadelphia and surrounding area, with occasional assignments in other states and locations. Responsibilities
Characterize subsurface conditions including soil profiles and soil parameters for the purpose of designing structures such as bridge and building foundations, retaining walls, temporary structures, stormwater infiltration basins, and pavements. Inspect borings, test pits, pavement coring, and pavement subgrade sampling, and perform laboratory testing. Perform material testing in the field and in the laboratory for concrete, asphalt, and soil materials. Support other departments at AID as needed. Geotechnical Engineering tasks: conduct boring and test pit inspections, log soil/rock samples, prepare boring/test pit logs; pavement engineering tasks: perform pavement core and subgrade sampling, collect samples for laboratory testing; prepare plans for boring, test pits, and pavement cores using CAD-based files and mapping tools; maintain daily field reports and project documentation; conduct geotechnical analyses under supervision (e.g., lateral earth pressure, stability, bearing, settlement for geotechnical structures); assist in pavement design inputs and calculations following FAA and AASHTO guidelines; prepare technical memoranda documenting methods and results referencing FHWA, AASHTO, and NJDOT standards; adhere to OSHA excavation safety standards and PPE requirements. Materials Engineering tasks: review field and laboratory data for asphalt, concrete, soil, and aggregate; prepare technical memoranda; analyze IRI pavement data for smoothness; field-locate and obtain concrete core samples; perform GPR to identify reinforcing steel locations; coordinate QA/QC with the materials lead; perform field sampling of soils and aggregates; conduct field and laboratory testing on construction materials (Atterberg Limits, sieve analyses, proctor, concrete strength, HMA design). Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with focus in Geotechnical and Materials Engineering. Master’s degree in civil engineering preferred, with emphasis in Geotechnical and Materials Engineering. 0–2 years of relevant experience. EIT (Engineer-in-Training) or EI (Engineering Intern) preferred. Ability to work across geotechnical, pavement, materials, and NDT with appropriate training. Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; working knowledge of AutoCAD and Adobe. Ability to commute to Hamilton, NJ office; valid driver’s license meeting AID insurance requirements. Benefits
