We are looking for Senior Power System Protection Engineers. This position will be based at Wendell, NC.
Relocation is provided.
You’ll make an impact by:
Designing, configuring, and testing protective relay systems for complex power systems and substations, ensuring high reliability and system integrity.
Executing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), preparing comprehensive test procedures, commissioning scripts, and leading successful project delivery.
Hands‑on experience with advanced relay test equipment such as Omicron and Doble, with deep knowledge of protection schemes for transmission, distribution, and industrial applications.
Developing and implementing protection and control schemes that align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer‑specific needs.
Being a proactive technical leader and collaborator, trusted to guide project teams, solve complex challenges, and drive results across all phases of the project lifecycle—from initial design to final commissioning.
Serving as the primary technical interface with clients, providing on‑site support, troubleshooting, and commissioning expertise with a focus on performance and customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic/computer science engineering.
4+ years of engineering experience preferably in power systems protection engineering field.
Project Technical Lead experience.
Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three‑ and one‑line diagrams for medium and/or high voltage substation systems.
Advanced knowledge of at least one of the relay products and associated software from vendors such as Siemens, GE, SEL, or ABB.
Applied knowledge of power protection on:
Overcurrent / Over‑Undervoltage
Transformer Differential
Motor Protection
High and Low Impedance Busbar Differential
Generator Protection
MV transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes.
Communication protocols such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, Profinet, Profibus.
Control and protection commissioning experience.
Factory and site testing experience in automation and control systems.
Around 50 to 70% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applied knowledge of power protection on:
High voltage line differential and distance protection.
Generator protection of large generating units.
Communication network technologies, including design, configuration, and troubleshooting of Ethernet switches for protection applications such as IEC‑61850 process bus and GOOSE applications.
Advanced programming skills and experience with programming languages used in protection systems.
