$142,916 Job Posting End Date: October 27, 2025 Job Summary: The Principal Engineer is able to work independently. Participates and represents AVANGRID on Industry associations. Applies established distribution planning criteria and uses sound utility engineering practices to identify deficiencies in the distribution system. Assists Distribution Engineers and Field Planners in evaluating system reliability and new service requirements. Acts as a technical leader in the Interconnection group to direct, oversee and mentor other Interconnection Engineers in the Department. Proactively identify and perform special projects & studies that innovatively solve unique & complex problems with a broad impact to the business. Key Responsibilities
Solve complex and unique Distribution Planning and Reliability issues and studies related to large-scale customer load additions and complex DER interconnections; develop scoping documents for complex distribution system improvement projects and propose solutions for distribution issues outside established criteria, including recommendations for new distribution substations and upgrade/replacement of existing substations transformers and equipment. Develop alternative methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services including Non-Wires Alternatives (NWAs). Anticipate internal/external business issues and/or threats and recommend process improvements. Proactively study and report on the status of distribution system facilities in assigned geographic area; may cover multiple OpCos. Serve as SME on high-impact studies and projects; lead teams and mentor others; manage resources across projects as needed. Makes presentations to regulatory/public entities; explain difficult concepts and influence stakeholders. Utilize computer aided analysis tools to identify system deficiencies and plan for reinforcements and DER system impact studies. Perform complex engineering analyses for locating and determining settings for distribution automation equipment. Serve as Department leader in the absence of the Supervisor of Interconnections; assist during storm restoration; lead cross-OpCo teams/projects solving complex problems with broad perspectives. Required Qualifications
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering 10 years of relevant experience Advanced Degree and/or PE License desired Depth and breadth of experience in Distribution Planning, Reliability Engineering and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Broad knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues Behavioral Competencies

Theoretical Engineering knowledge: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design Analytics, Modeling & Calculation (e.g., symmetric components, per unit, etc.), understanding the business model Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, documentation; defend in front of stakeholders Engineering documentation: ability to document, interpret, review and approve engineering work Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Local, State and Federal regulatory standards (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC, etc.) Power System Studies – knowledge & interpretation of study assumptions and results (e.g., Power Flow, DER, Voltage, Contingency, etc.) Software Proficiency – Power System Analytics (e.g., CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, ASPEN) Company
