Overview
Airfield Maintenance Specialist III (may underfill) – Salt Lake City Department of Airport. This role involves ensuring the day-to-day safe, secure, and efficient operations of the airport, including maintaining landing strips, airfield facilities, perimeters, and operating and maintaining trucks and heavy equipment. Responsibilities
Airfield Maintenance Specialist I – Typical Duties: assist by performing skilled level work in maintenance areas including aircraft movement environment, asphalt, pavement and repair, road construction, building demolition, concrete construction and repair; fencing installation and repair as per FAA guidelines; landscaping and grounds-keeping duties; operate heavy equipment and maintain it; operate pavement marking equipment and related systems; perform snow and ice removal operations per FAA guidelines; perform general maintenance duties (garbage removal, sub-drainage, signage, TSA-mandated fence work); coordinate with Airport Tower/Ground Control; follow FAA regulations in the AOA; perform other duties as assigned. Airfield Maintenance Specialist II – Typical Duties: perform snow and ice removal with specialized equipment; operate and maintain heavy equipment; operate pavement marking and related systems; perform skilled maintenance across aircraft movement environment, road/sidewalk, and fencing; read blueprints; coordinate with Airport Control; supervise crew maintenance; train co-workers; maintain daily logs; respond to aircraft emergencies; perform general maintenance duties; perform other duties as assigned. Airfield Maintenance Specialist III – Typical Duties: function as lead operator for snow and ice removal; operate and maintain heavy equipment and pavement marking systems; perform skilled maintenance across multiple areas; supervise crew maintenance and ensure safety; train co-workers; maintain logs; respond to aircraft emergencies; perform general maintenance duties; perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Airfield Maintenance Specialist I: One year experience operating heavy/light equipment; valid Commercial Driver's License; DOT medical card; knowledge of safety and operation of heavy/light equipment; ability to work varied shifts; ability to pass Post Offer Employment Test; ability to pass criminal history checks for FAA certification; ability to pass random drug screenings. Airfield Maintenance Specialist II: Three years’ experience operating heavy/light equipment; CDL and DOT medical card; knowledge of airfield and landside operations; ability to work varied shifts; safety knowledge; ability to supervise crew maintenance; pass checks and certifications; ability to read blueprints. Airfield Maintenance Specialist III: Five years’ experience operating heavy/light equipment; CDL and DOT medical card; knowledge of airfield and landside operations, safety rules, and snow/ice removal; ability to supervise crew maintenance; maintain certifications (confined space, temporary traffic control, flagger, forklift); ability to read blueprints; ability to pass criminal history checks and FAA knowledge exams; ability to pass drug screenings. Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with basic computer applications; aviation experience; ability to communicate effectively; possession of additional certifications (e.g., Backflow Technician, non-commercial pesticide applicator, crane operators, CPR, etc.). Career Path
