Job Description Summary
The Senior HVDC Control System Engineer is an established leader in the engineering team. They drive technical and economic understanding of the marketplace and collaborate with business leaders to provide customers with the best solutions that positively impact the business.
As a Senior Engineer – HVDC Control Systems, you will enable the Energy Transition through the development of HVDC converter models and advanced controls. You will lead and contribute to R&D programs aligned with GE Vernova’s energy businesses and with U.S. Government Agencies. Technologies developed in these programs will be matured and transitioned into products to drive breakthrough impact for the company, customers, and society.

Responsibilities
Lead diverse teams and contribute at a senior level to the development and application of advanced technology solutions for GE Vernova products and services using modeling and advanced controls.
Validate performance of solutions through real-time and offline simulations and by applying them to target systems.
Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications.
Ensure solutions are technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions.
Transfer technology to GE Vernova engineering teams for inclusion in next-generation products and services.
Stay current with advances in system technologies to identify new ideas and applications.
Collaborate with colleagues across GE Vernova, the Advanced Research Center, and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies.
Requirements
Doctorate degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in design, development, and validation of power converters.
or Master’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in design, development, and validation of power converters.
3 to 5 years of experience with advanced controllers, optimization, estimation, or detection algorithms.
3 to 5 years of experience in algorithm development and software implementation for complex physical systems (e.g., HVDC converters, converters with renewable resources, industrial applications, transportation, etc.).
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, including international travel, with compliance to company travel and tax policies.
Desired
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C, C++, or Python; knowledge of PSCAD is a plus.
Strong background in power electronics and HVDC/VSC schemes; some knowledge of LCC is advantageous.
Experience with real-time implementation and hardware-in-the-loop simulations for control validation.
Experience developing controls for industrial and AC transmission grid applications.
Experience with machine learning/AI techniques in a controller context and cyber-security algorithms.
Exposure to industrial control hardware programming and software development; proficiency with git/github.
Experience with government funding applications and project proposals/tendering.
Strong communication with senior leadership and stakeholders (customers, regulators).
Experience with program management including scheduling, milestones, and tracking funding.
Demonstrated ability to take an idea from concept to product.
On-site location: Niskayuna, NY.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range is USD 111,200.00 – 173,100.00 per year, with eligibility for a performance bonus. Additional details may vary by experience, education, and location. Healthcare, retirement, and other benefits are described by GE Vernova's benefit plans.
