Position Summary:

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Structural analysis and design calculations for bridges (steel plate girders, prestressed concrete beams, foundations, etc.), retaining walls, bridge repairs, and ancillary structures (culverts, sign structures, etc.)

Analyze survey data, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

Perform design computations and preliminary design reports comparing various structural alternatives

Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

Develop quantity and construction cost estimates

Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

Coordinate with internal team members to ensure task completion on schedule and while meeting established quality benchmarks

Work in a team environment as well as individually

Time management

Assist with bridge inspection fieldwork and report writing

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program

0-5 years of experience with design of highway bridges and transportation related structures

Knowledge of basic structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete structures.

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Written and oral communication skills

Preferred Experience

Engineer-in-training certification

Familiarity with PennDOT and AASHTO LRFD structural design/analysis and/or CADD experience

Internships/Work experience with PA civil/structural engineering consultants working on PennDOT or PA Turnpike related projects

Membership in ASCE/ASHE Student Chapters

Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
