Overview
Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer-Validation to join the USB and Networking Validation Team. You will be a leader in bringing advanced connectivity devices to market, including Ethernet switches, USB 3.2 hubs, PCI-Express, and other interfaces above 25Gbps.
Responsibilities
Develop validation and test plan documentation based on datasheets, thinking beyond design implementation to identify elusive bugs and ensure sufficient test coverage to reach a production‑worthy device.
Specify and design test environments including:
Software requirements
Lab equipment requirements
Test board designs
Perform lab‑based post‑silicon validation data collection and document results.
Collaborate with Design Engineering, Product Engineering, and Applications Engineering to validate new silicon products.
Work in the lab to replicate customer issues and, when necessary, interface directly with field engineers to root cause a customer problem.
Lead small teams to achieve program goals on firm timelines.
Manage resolution of silicon issues found during the product life cycle.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master\'s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
10+ years of combined experience in one or more of the following areas:
High‑Speed Digital design and/or Test
Analog/Mixed‑Signal design and/or Test
Systems design and/or Test
Power IC Design and/or Test
Ability to conceive test cases and customer usage models that may challenge design assumptions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organization skills and the ability to develop hardware design specifications based on input from multiple stakeholders and specifications.
Hands‑on knowledge of electronics lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscope, logic analyzer, protocol analyzer).
Self‑motivated with the ability to work in a collaborative group environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
LabVIEW control of automated test environments
IC Device Characterization
Understanding of one or more of the following protocols: USB (USB3.0, USB2.0), USB Power Delivery, Ethernet (10/100/1G/10G/25G), Flash Media Standards, PCIe
Experience in direct support of customers and Field Applications Engineers
Hardware Development (Schematic Design, PCB prototyping)
Travel Travel Time: 0% - 25%
