Position Summary: This is a permanent, part-time, non-benefited position as an Environmental Educator at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island, GA. Primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include life and earth science, ecology, and marine science. Other responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations of the facility. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies: Commitment to child development; strong communication, creativity, leadership. Ability to teach a wide variety of subjects to K-12 students. Broad knowledge of outdoor education; able to work outdoors. Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults. Ability to work independently. Ability to work with and care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others). Physical Demands: Outdoor work in various weather conditions. Lift 20-40 pounds and walk ~3 miles daily. Driving as needed. Subjects include life and earth science, survival skills, team building, ropes challenges, and pioneer living skills. Align with state and national standards. Maintenance and cleanup of facilities and grounds. Dining hall assistance. General support of center operations including office/reception, scheduling visits, dining hall/kitchen support, conference group support, on-call duties, maintenance projects, housekeeping, and driving for group programming. Animal care and maintenance of teaching areas including the herpetology lab.
