What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer for our Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York to contribute to the design and development of new automation equipment and assembly lines.
The Controls Engineer will work to develop machine and process concepts along with several Manufacturing Engineering peers. The candidate will draft detailed electrical schematics to support the concept and will oversee sourcing of the electrical panel build. The candidate will then program all equipment code components, such as PLCs, HMIs, robotics, servo drives, etc. The candidate will calibrate and fine-tune the equipment until it meets production targets.
Throughout this process, the candidate will also manage project documentation such as scope, schedule, and budget, and is expected to contribute lessons learned to Tesla's global standards.
What You\'ll Do
Project management of external vendors and internal teams, including management of scope, budget, schedule, communications, and quality.
Electrical design & drafting meeting industry standards (NFPA, UL, etc.), including selection of hardware components.
Equipment code programming, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion, vision systems, safety controllers, SCADA integration, networking, etc.
Safety assessments and buyoffs meeting industry standards (IEC)
Continuous improvement, including equipment troubleshooting, and engineering analysis of cycle time, availability, yield, etc.
Standards document development
What You\'ll Bring
Prior experience with project management of external vendors and/or internal teams
Experience with electrical design and drafting using EPLAN or AutoCAD
Familiarity with the NRTL program, NFPA 79, and UL 508A
Experience programming with Siemens TIA Portal; ladder logic and graph
Familiarity with Siemens SICAR standard
Experience programming Fanuc robots
Experience programming iRVision, Keyence, and/or Cognex vision systems
Experience performing safety assessments and buyoffs
Familiarity with IEC 13849-1 and ANSI/RIA R15.06
Technical writing competency, especially with development of technical standards

Expected Compensation
Manufacturing Controls Engineer - $86,400 - $129,600/annual salary
Sr Manufacturing Controls Engineer - $100,800 - $151,200/annual salary
+ cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
