Overview
The Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services is recruiting for one (1) Assistant Printing Press Operator to function as Machine Leader. The role involves operating production mail inserting equipment, managing job data, training staff, and supervising related office machine operations within the General Support Services / Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services. Hours are Normal Business Hours. Work Location: 10300 Foster Ave, Brooklyn NY 11236. Responsibilities
Interface with United States Postal Service utilizing Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) & Presort Accuracy Validation and Evaluation (PAVE) move update software, maintaining documentation of Mailing List Correction (MLC) services accessed. Replenish funds for postage meters and ensure all mail trays are tagged and properly presorted with supporting documentation according to USPS rules and regulations. Prepare Welfare Management System (WMS), Paperless Office System (POS), Office of Revenue Investigation, Family Independence Administration (FIA), Office of Staff Resources (OSR), etc., and various centers specific mailing documents operating Production Mail Inserting Equipment, which receives its control function from the PC based Mail Run Data File (MRDF). Load various barcodes as needed to align with the barcode on the letters and set up the machine to handle flat and standard size envelopes. Train staff on the use and operation of Mail Inserters, Inkjet Addressing and Imaging Systems, Folders and Cutters and other digital mailing systems and processing equipment. Maintain FastForward United States Postal Service (USPS) reports, and move updates via File Transfer Protocol, Compact Disk, or diskette. Operate mail inserter PC controller by loading MRDF, configuring, and recording job data. Notify supervisor/manager of any problems running a job whether it’s hardware, software, or operator training issue. Produce job work orders from various mailing systems and associate those work orders with the correct jobs, ensuring to indicate correct envelope type, postage type, and mail expected date. Close out completed jobs indicating the date completed and the operators who produced the work. Generate and provide operator and machine productivity reports from mail insertion equipment to management. Process Negotiable Documents and verify count according to agency policies and procedures. Supervisor responsibilities in the Supervisor of Office Machine Operations title including prioritizing work, managing time and attendance, and providing ongoing training as needed. Minimum Qualifications
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory full-time experience operating a cylinder-type printing press using the offset-press printing process; or 2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Preferred Skills
5 years’ experience operating production mail inserting equipment from manufacturers such as Gunther, Bell & Howell, BlueCrest and Pitney Bowes. Experience with other bindery equipment such as folders and tabbing machines. Experience with USPS CASS and PAVE reports. Ability to lift boxes of copy paper approximately 30 to 50 lb. 55a Program
