buses and support vehicles. Essential Functions
Mechanic A
Performs bus maintenance, repair, and diagnostics to restore vehicles to serviceable condition. Performs troubleshooting, repair, rebuilding, overhauling, and inspection of
MST
buses. Removes, repairs, troubleshoots, rebuilds, overhauls, and installs components such as engines, transmissions, axles, wheels, hydraulic and electrical systems, HVAC, valves, pumps, tanks, compressors, heat exchangers, piping, alternators, generators, starters, blowers, and fuel meters. Adjusts and installs engine components and calibrates gauges and meters. Certified to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC systems. Recommends external repair referrals when necessary. Maintains and installs lighting, alarms, safety circuits, interlocks, ignition, environmental systems, and related components. Operates and repairs shop equipment and tools, performs road call services. Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections per federal, state, and
MST
guidelines. Prepares reports, documents defects and repairs, and maintains records. May train other mechanics and act as Lead Mechanic. Uses computers for data input and retrieval. Performs other related tasks as required. Mechanic B
Performs brake and tire safety inspections, removes and installs major components, oils, and greases equipment. Services and repairs tools and equipment, performs minor repairs on road calls. Uses testing equipment, shop tools, and manuals for troubleshooting and repairs. Performs engine tune-ups, brake lining, wheel bearing replacements, cooling system pressure tests, and minor mechanical repairs. Certified to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC systems. Maintains records, operates computers for data management, and performs related tasks. Mechanic C
Performs entry-level vehicle maintenance and repair tasks. Performs brake and tire inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs. Assists higher mechanics on road calls, travels with and supports higher-level mechanics. Troubleshoots simple systems, uses shop tools and equipment, and follows instructions. May perform some major component replacements depending on skill set. Certified to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC systems. Maintains records, operates computers, and performs related tasks. Mechanic A
High school diploma + 4 years automotive/diesel maintenance or equivalent. Valid California driver’s license, Class C preferred, Class B required. Must pass MST skills test. Flexible with work hours and locations. Mechanic B
High school diploma or equivalent + 1-year experience maintaining automotive/diesel equipment. Valid California driver’s license, Class C preferred, Class B required. Must pass MST skills test. Flexible work hours and locations. Mechanic C
High school diploma or equivalent + 1-year experience. Valid California driver’s license, Class C preferred, Class B required. Must pass MST skills test. Flexible work hours and locations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
