POSITION OVERVIEW: The Structural Engineer’s role is to provide structural engineering analysis and design for all current and future products as well on individual project designs as needed. This position is responsible for skid base and support design for all chiller systems, cooling towers, air-cooled heat exchangers and any related products as well as foundation designs for various jobsite conditions as specified by customers. The position requires close interface with Project Engineers and Project Managers, Draftsmen/designers, and with service engineers and field technicians. The Structural Engineer provides all structural engineering and design functions, including solicitation of technical content, associated with preparing all customer and fabrication drawings. This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assigned specific projects to complete, working as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignment. May supervise engineers and technicians on assigned work. As a registered professional engineer, seals and signs all documentation produced by own work. May also seal and sign work done by engineers under direct supervision. Directs technical services personnel in the proper execution of drawings for civil/structural systems to which assigned. Examines civil/structural drawings for completeness, detail, and accuracy as a peer reviewer. Checks manufacturers’ prints and coordinates between these and utility engineering drawings. Maintains a thorough, current knowledge of new and innovative techniques in the civil/structural engineering field. May perform studies, preparation of specifications, evaluation of proposals, and development of estimates. May recommend for purchase civil/structural systems components. JOB SKILLS: Proficient at excel and other computer skills Estimating and bid tabulation experience is highly desirable. Experience with analysis of compliance with NEC, NFPA and other relevant codes. Must be extremely computer literate – CAD experience required. Must have a “can do” attitude. Must be able to juggle multiple needs from customers (internal & external). Must be proficient in technical writing and comprehensive documentation. EDUCATION & TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year engineering program. A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred, although a degree in chemical, Mechanical or industrial engineering may be considered. The candidate should have already passed an EIT exam. A PE license, or the ability to obtain registration, is required. The candidate must be able to perform their own design and drafting work on the latest releases of AutoCAD; but must also possess the ability to work with subordinate designers and drafters to communicate design principles and to manage the drawing generation process MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must have at least 5 years’ experience in design engineering and or structural analysis. Equipment packaging experience specifically in the areas of rotating equipment such as large compressors, pumps, etc. Power generation experience, particularly with gas turbines, is a plus. Strong AutoCAD, Excel, and other computer skills. Previous experience with Stru-cad, STAAD-Pro or other simulation software is highly desirable. Knowledge of SBC, UBC, IBC and other structural and building codes is a plus. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading.
