Overview

Senior Engineer - Component Heat Transfer - GE Aerospace Research role at Jobs via Dice. GE Aerospace Research, nestled in the heart of New York's Capital District, builds on over 125 years of industrial research heritage to deliver breakthrough technologies. Our Component Heat Transfer Group pioneers advanced thermal management solutions for today’s jet engines, and we’re looking for a Senior Engineer who thrives on turning novel cooling concepts into validated prototypes. If you’re driven by hands-on experimentation, predictive modeling, and cross-functional collaboration and ready to shape the future of engine performance, apply today to join our team. Essential Responsibilities

Drive Thermal Innovation: Conceive and implement advanced cooling strategies for gas turbine elements: designing, fabricating, and testing subscale mock-ups, cooling passages, and full-scale hardware. Lead Integrated Teams: Coordinate engineers, researchers, technicians, and external partners to advance component-level thermal solutions from feasibility studies through demonstration. Architect Test Systems: Design and commission bespoke rigs, instrumentation and data pipelines to capture high-fidelity thermal performance metrics that match the team\'s predicted results. Model & Validate: Develop predictive thermal models using the latest correlations and modeling methods; verify predictions via bench tests and in situ experiments. Roadmap & Funding: Define a multi-year technology roadmap; author compelling proposals and secure resources to sustain a pipeline of heat-transfer research and prototype development. Collaborate & Publish: Build relationships with academia, national labs, and industry; protect innovations through patents and disseminate findings at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Mentor Future Engineers: Coach early-career staff in thermal design principles, instrumentation best practices, and test methodologies. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience or M.S. with 10 years of experience. Demonstrated success solving component-scale thermal challenges in aerospace or power systems. Proven leadership of cross-functional test and design teams in a lab or research setting. Track record of external partnerships: securing grants, joint projects, or sponsored research. Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and customers with clarity and confidence. Familiarity with turbine gas engines and their thermal control systems. Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY. Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship. Desired Characteristics

10+ years of work experience in an industrial or laboratory setting. Direct knowledge of propulsion applications, hybrid-electric systems, electronics cooling, space power, or high-speed flight vehicles. Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes for heat-transfer hardware and rapid prototyping techniques. Experience with multi-physics simulation tools for integrated thermal-structural studies (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, Fluent, CFX, OpenFOAM, NPSS, MATLAB Simscape/Simulink, Modelica, PROOSIS, GT-Suite, or similar). Knowledge of model verification and validation, model calibration, and uncertainty quantification. Experience developing custom engineering models, data reduction and visualization in languages such as EES, MATLAB, Python, Fortran, C++, etc. Expertise in test execution: designing, fabricating, testing, commissioning, and operating fluid-thermal systems and their sub-systems. Experience with data acquisition hardware and software (e.g., NI LabVIEW, DEWESoft, Cyres) and ability to specify, install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation for mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems. Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this position is $100,000 - $205,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by factors including experience, education, and skill set. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of base salary. This posting is expected to close on October 30, 2025.
