Summary The Senior AFP Manufacturing Engineer role at Firefly Aerospace is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of CNC machining and programming operations.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make the largest liquid-filled all composite rocket ever built . You will work closely with Manufacturing Technicians, Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers and other Engineering teams to increase productivity and optimize machining programs and procedures.

Responsibilities

Generate and maintain programs and setup sheets in a high mix/low volume environment.

Define and adjust speed and feed parameters for maximum tool life in challenging and high stakes applications

Make suggestions on drawing changes to improve manufacturability and CNC program strategy

Design and machine fixture tooling as needed

Meet expectations for productivity and production goals

Maintain product flow and alert management when production is impeded or slowed

Provide feedback and ideas for process improvements

Digitally proof programing and have a cautious approach to high risk operations to avoid head crashes

Siemens Nx Surface modeling

Generating tool paths

Reviewing simulations

Broad understanding of gantry kinematics

Interpreting output files

Qualifications Required

Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

Working knowledge of composite manufacturing operations

5+ years experience programming for a 5 axis milling operation or large format gantry operation for an Ingersoll gantry mill or Automated Fibre Placement

Experience programming 5 axis CNC machines

Attention to detail and tolerance for some level of monotony and/or repetition. Optimization of programs will be desired, which may lead to programming many different variations

Willingness to be hands on with the machine, monitoring the machine response to program will be key to optimization of programs.

Desired

Masters degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

10 years of CNC programming experience

Experience with multi axis mill and lathe CNC machines

Coding capability in python, macros, Visual Basic, File parsing/editing, excel scripts

Attention to detail and tolerance for some level of monotony and/or repetition
