Job Summary With minimum supervision, perform functions related to fabricating, assembling, and performing composite layup by applying knowledge of working characteristics of bonding techniques using precision instruments, hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment. Must be available to work overtime and occasional Saturdays.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Works from process sheets or verbal instructions to identify the type and sequence of operations needed to construct a variety of parts to meet contractual requirements.

Prepares tooling/fixturing used for fabrication and coupon testing.

Operates standard equipment to remedy in-process conditions such as excess or insufficient resin, trapped air pockets, or delamination.

Prepares ingredients such as resins, catalysts, fillers, accelerators, and colors, according to process.

Sets up and operates forming machines and presses, or laminates plastic cloth and resins or impregnated cloth onto layup molds or bonding fixtures to shape parts.

Wraps bonding fixtures or molds in vacuum bagging materials, attaches fittings, and exhausts air to prepare lamination for curing or bonding.

Cuts materials to size using shears, knives, cutters, scissors, routers, or saws.

Lay out cutting lines on materials following templates, blueprints, sketches, or sample parts.

Sets up and operates curing ovens and autoclaves as needed.

Cures products under heat lamps or in ovens, adjusting heat, steam, and water lines.

Verifies work using measurement tools like verniers, height gauges, dial indicators, and micrometers.

Performs structural testing to verify bond line integrity.

Utilizes tools, drills, and other concepts for precision assembly.

Has experience in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma required; additional coursework in related fields preferred.

2-4 years experience as a Composite Technician, Assembler, or Machinist in aerospace, auto, or boat manufacturing industry preferred.

Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings.

Good mechanical skills.
