Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Design

Merrick & Company’s Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Mechanical Engineer to support our operations in our Oak Ridge, TN office. Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship. The successful candidate will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects. Tasks include: Developing design calculations Creating process flow diagrams Establishing sequences of operation Equipment selection and layout Ductwork and piping sizing and layout Supporting project proposals Interdisciplinary coordination Participating in QA/QC processes Conducting site inspections and construction administration This position is primarily a leadership role and will be part of a design team environment. Degree Requirements:
Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is required. Experience:
Minimum of twelve (12) years related experience. Candidate must have their Professional Engineering (PE) license in SC, TN or NM or able to receive reciprocity within 6 months. Candidate must understand the importance of Business Development, project management for A-E firms, managing to fee, and demonstrate skills in multi-discipline teams. Position requires the ability to manage other engineers and designers, and experience interfacing with client contacts. Strong experience with: Thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems Calculating and sizing mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans, and pumps Sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems Must be familiar with AutoCAD and have experience with Revit building information modeling software. Work in a design team environment, directing the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegating work as required Interdisciplinary coordination Develop calculations, flow diagrams, and specifications Size and layout ductwork, hydronic and plumbing piping systems Lead QA/QC processes Be proficient with codes, standards, and guidelines Competencies

The job will include periodic visits to job sites. Physical Requirements include: Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Ability to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted. May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
