Overview
Global Laboratory Systems Engineering (GLSE) designs and delivers manufacturing and test solutions for GM labs and garages, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and data consistency. We collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Laboratory Operations, and key suppliers to provide high-value systems and equipment.
We’re looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team. This role involves implementing and validating controls for new and existing equipment, including electric propulsion systems, battery cell manufacturing, and test systems. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to develop systems, coordinate installations, troubleshoot issues, and improve system performance and data quality.
Responsibilities
Lead and support projects that define, source, engineer, integrate, install, and commission new capital equipment into General Motors laboratories
Provide controls related technical direction and oversight to outside vendors/suppliers
Generate technical solutions for current and future projects & equipment from a controls engineering perspective
Understand and work to timelines and milestones for projects/assignments to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
Follow all corporate safety standards and site safety policies
Minimal travel, domestic/international, up to 10%
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
3+ years of experience in equipment controls design, integration, and/or execution
Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects independently
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
MS Engineering preferred
Experience with GM-specific processes, including G-risk, G-comply, Design for Health & Safety, Safety Control Systems
Outstanding interpersonal relationship and communication skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
HMI- Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi and/or Beckhoff experience
PLC- Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi and/or Beckhoff experience
Proficiency in industrial networking protocols – Profibus, Profinet, TCP/IP and EthernetIP
Knowledge of equipment specification and qualification
