We are seeking a skilled and experienced
Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Engineer
to lead and manage VDC activities for estimates, projects, and shop fabrication assignments. This role ensures VDC activities comply with internal company standards, proposed construction methods, and external client requirements. The VDC Engineer will utilize expertise in 3D modeling and design software such as 3D Max, Revit, and Navisworks to develop and oversee VDC deliverables that drive project efficiency, quality, and success. Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all aspects of Brennan Model Uses on assigned projects. Develop 3D models of existing project sites using data from laser scanning, photogrammetry, surveys, drone captures, customer-supplied models, and 2D plan sets. Conduct quantity take-offs and cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle. Generate 3D models with added dimensions (e.g., time) to track progress, plan, and illustrate construction sequences. Identify and resolve potential spatial issues, coordinate fitment and constructability, and conduct clash detections using compiled models. Create detailed plans, elevations, sections, renderings, shop drawings, proposal images, and phasing models. Design models for permanent and temporary facilities, including formwork, scaffolding, earth retaining systems, and other engineered construction systems. Translate model information for material fabrication, project layout, and automated equipment control. Document as-built conditions, asset installations, and surrounding environments for internal and client records. Manage Autodesk Vault utilization and file management processes. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define deliverables, data exchange requirements, and project-specific needs. Ensure company standards and best practices are applied to all assigned VDC projects. Lead and coordinate VDC meetings, workflows, and deliverables for project teams. Assign tasks to VDC Technicians, VDC Engineers, and other contributors for integration into federated models. Train and guide project teams on VDC workflows and software tools. Run reports such as bills of materials, quantity takeoffs, clash reports, and earthwork designs using 3D authoring software. Review work performed by VDC Technicians and operational staff. Maintain and update the company model use document and VDC folder structure on Autodesk Construction Cloud Build. Other duties as assigned. VDC Engineer Qualifications:
Technical, Associate, or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience. 5-10 years of experience with 3D authoring software, including Autodesk Civil 3D, 3D Max, Revit, Navisworks, Infraworks, and Inventor. Experience in building, heavy civil, fabrication, manufacturing, or marine construction industries is required. Strong knowledge of estimating, scheduling, and project management principles. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, documents, and 3D/BIM models. Experience with geospatial and technical software for field layout, data collection, and fabrication. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with project managers, superintendents, schedulers, estimators, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
