Overview The Plant Quality Engineer (PQE) is responsible for all aspects of product conformity for their systems and components at the Detroit Assembly Complex - Mack. The PQE reports directly to the PQE Lead and collaborates with salaried and hourly assembly plant and corporate personnel to complete projects within their area of responsibility. The PQE validates product changes, provides technical expertise, and improves outgoing quality to meet or exceed customer expectations. With integrity and conviction, the PQE responds to manufacturing quality issues and manages all product changes. Through advanced problem-solving methods and SPW kaizen methodology, the PQE supports continuous quality improvement initiatives within the plant. The PQE works with cross-functional manufacturing teams to facilitate consensus and drive action from main stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Represent “Voice of the Customer” within the Assembly Plant

Support external quality KPI management for achieving targets, driving improvement/corrective actions and escalation

Review warranty/CQI claims daily, maintain issue stratification and manage the portion of Warranty Wall responsible for their area

Resolve systemic/chronic or major quality issues (Top Warranty, Recalls, RSU, CSN)

Lead improvement activities in vehicle quality by addressing nonconformity to product quality targets (SCA, VLO, BSR, and TDF targets)

Support Corporate Quality objectives/deliverables and communicate requirements to all groups involved to ensure goals are achieved

Collaborate and lead internal and external resources to achieve project/program timing

Lead teams to identify issues/risks related to product designs, processes and applications using FMEA and other risk assessment tools

Collaborate with Process Quality, Plant PIM/PRM, PPS / Process Engineers to ensure control plans are implemented and maintained (Driven by Standards, Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans requirements, AM/PM Schedules, measurement/visibility)

Partner with Process Quality to map issues/defects within PFS/MCV to ensure vehicles with defects do not escape the plant and defects are identified, measured (trends), and addressed

Support the plant on complex issues from Final, Rolls, BSR, CPA/CTVV (Vehicle Center)

Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification and solutions of manufacturing constraints

Escalate product-related issues when needed, including stopping the line and executing yard holds/PRIs

Ensure adherence to all standards for proper handling and installation of related components

Manage the implementation of Product/Process Changes through Risk Assessment and station readiness (PERs, IAAs, CNs and Station Change Management)

Perform critical Yard Hold/Product Related Issue activities to ensure vehicle quality, mitigate risks and enable prompt release of units

Support Quality & Customer Safety Pillar by leading resolution of quality issues

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited university (other engineering degrees with relevant experience may be considered)

Well versed in both Microsoft and Google applications

Ability to perform data analysis to identify top issues, summarize trends, distinctions, and effectiveness of corrective actions and continuous improvement activities

Effective presentation/public speaking skills (comfortable presenting to all levels of the organization from hourly employees to senior management)

Experience with problem solving tools

Able to demonstrate coaching and teaching abilities

Self-motivated and directed

Ability to thrive in a high-intensity environment while working on multiple projects

Passion for spending time on the shop floor and understanding the build process from a 4M1D perspective (man, method, machine, material, and design)

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Degree

Reactive Green Belt / Black Belt Certification

Experience in resolving complex issues including root cause analysis and repairs

Experience in Product Engineering and/or Vehicle Integration/Development at a supplier or Tier 1 Automotive Manufacturer

Manufacturing or Quality experience within a vehicle/component assembly plant
