Bonded Assembly Technician role at Ducommun Incorporated located in Coxsackie, NY. The Bonded Assembly Technician will perform composite layup, metal bond layup, composite and structural assembly, sheet metal forming, and weight and balance or autoclave operations. Duties & Responsibilities
Makes simple pattern layouts on flat or other metal stock Performs drilling, reaming, counter sinking, counter boring, tapping, routing and riveting of detail parts to be used in bonded rotor blades and on final bonded rotor blades using specified tooling Fills and fairs contour surfaces of rotor blades to within .010" tolerances Prepares metal for bonding and may apply adhesive to parts and sub-assemblies; sets up and operates liquid adhesive spray, brush and roller coat equipment to prepare parts for metal bonding Fits, installs and assembles parts and honeycomb core to structural member, bonding materials, and other details; patches, replaces and reworks assemblies to conform to specifications Assembles and installs structures involving drilling, reaming and/or riveting, and the installation of various fasteners to specifications including torque operations on structural assemblies using tooling, jigs and fixtures Performs all operations necessary in the location, installation, assembly and integral mating of major structural sub-assemblies and assemblies, with or without specialized tooling and jigs Performs operations necessary to aerodynamically balance helicopter rotor blades to customer specifications and Quality Control standards Positions blade into weight and balance fixtures, reads levels and micrometers to determine balance Records temperature readings (before and after balancing), weight, and other pertinent information about blade Regulates, operates and maintains curing equipment Positions vacuum bagged parts or assemblies in the autoclave, manages thermocouples, vacuum lines and verifies proper vacuum Physical Demands & Work Conditions
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Frequent walking, handling and reaching with hands and arms Annual baseline hearing test is required Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by safety standards Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Work near moving mechanical parts; exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and airborne particles; noise level is usually loud Hearing protection and safety glasses required; fully enclosed shoes with protective toe caps required Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required Two (2) years of relevant manufacturing experience preferred Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions written, oral or diagram form Ability to read and write in English Ability to perform basic math with whole numbers and decimals Compensation & Benefits
