Overview
As a Flight Test Engineer with MTSI, you will be responsible for planning, provisioning, conducting, and reporting fast paced, streamlined flight test operations in support of the Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Command Test Center (AATC) in Tucson, AZ, specifically for the 416 Flight Test Squadron’s Operating Location A. The Candidate will perform developmental and operational testing for the latest F-16 operational flight programs and associated systems and weapons. Responsibilities
Assist the OL-A Director in identifying Operational Flight Program changes to modernize and increase lethality for the F-16. Accomplish studies on viability, participate in design reviews with the F-16 program office and AATC pilots/engineers. Plan for flight testing, draft test plans/reports, draft test information sheets, conduct pre-mission and post-mission briefs and mission reviews with project pilots. Archive and analyze test mission data and assist with candidate adjustments and engineering changes as required. Work closely with the 416 FLTS OL-A Director, various system program offices, and industry vendors to implement commercial/government off-the-shelf and developmental improvements to F-16 systems. Responsible for technical implementation of required software and hardware architecture in coordination with the efforts of AATC government and program office personnel. Provide expertise in operational and developmental test planning and execution (particularly in the fighter aircraft environment); test plan formulation; basic aircraft/system data bus architectures (to include PPD and mil-standard 1553 & Ethernet); and data analysis tools. Develop an understanding of the operation and tactical applications of the above systems and their interfaces. Directly support AATC in the development of advanced combat systems from cradle to grave in an independent, high-energy environment and operate in multidisciplinary teams of industry, government and military personnel including engineers, analysts, scientists, pilots and other aircrew. Demonstrate a can-do attitude, self-starting, ambition, and strong work ethic. Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience in practical engineering or test and evaluation. Strong desire to learn new systems and propose new ideas for F-16 systems, software, and design. Experience with all phases of aircraft test and development, including change proposal/selection, test plan writing, test design, test provisioning/scheduling, test execution, data analysis, and reporting. Experience with common design tools and data analysis tools such as MATLAB. Strong ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated leadership and customer interface skills. Good analytical skills and ability to operate in a multi-tasking environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills; background in special access programs is highly desired. Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Desired Skills
Experience with fighter aircraft test and development. Graduate of US Test Pilot School. Experience in the design/use and aircraft data bus architecture. Experience as an aircrew member in fighter aircraft. Experience with flight test of avionics systems, weapons, live weapon fires, and sensor testing. Education Requirements
B.S. in a technical discipline is required, preferably in aeronautical/aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. Master’s degree in a technical discipline, Desired. Clearance Requirements
Active Secret security clearance required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and meet eligibility requirements for Special Access Program (SAP). U.S. Citizenship is required for this position. Travel Requirements
Travel is expected to be intermittent. Up to 20% travel, depending on program workload, with occasional travel periods to support AATC deployments for more than a week. Perks & Benefits
