Y Combinator
YC is looking to bring on a Product Engineer to help scale our impact by supporting post-batch initiatives and the YC-only hiring platform.
In This Role, You Will
Design and build out new features in entirety. This role focuses on helping founders post-batch, including workatastartup.com (hiring) and internal software (helping YC stay in touch with founders and YC alumni). Scope and prioritize items on our post-batch roadmap alongside YC partners and others on the YC software team. Analyze usage and engagement from founders, job-seekers and other users to understand what’s working and what’s not, and improve accordingly. Who we are
YC is small: the whole company is only 85 people, and our software team makes up 15. We value a small, tightly knit crew where each product engineer has autonomy and can move quickly. We’re a team of former founders and engineers who value ownership and product-focused work, and we collaborate with a low-ego, high-impact mindset. We operate like a startup: roadmaps evolve, we ship new products, and we experiment while being honest about what’s working. We seek kind, low-ego people who can contribute to a monolith codebase and help founders, our Group Partners, or other engineers on the codebase. YC is applying AI tools across our product areas, including investor-focused work, and we’re happy to share more when we chat in person. What we’re looking for
We’re interested in candidates who have built impressive software and can discuss technical challenges, adoption hurdles, and what it took to finish a project. People who love building full-stack web apps. Our stack includes Rails, React and Postgres, and we value pragmatic builders who ship with impact and regularly engage with customers (founders, investors, or colleagues). Optimism about how technology can improve work and life; ability to make good trade-offs and exercise good judgement, especially given the sensitive information handled by the software team. Location & benefits
Location:
YC is headquartered in San Francisco and seeks candidates in the SF Bay Area or those willing to relocate. In-person collaboration is valued; there is case-by-case flexibility for remote work. Compensation:
$185K to $300K base salary, depending on experience. Carry in the YC fund may be offered, representing potential upside. Benefits:
Medical, vision, and dental plans; infertility benefit; STD/LTD; life insurance; commuter benefits; FSA; HSA; 401(k) with 4% matching; parental leave; paid holidays; flexible PTO. Work Authorization:
Employer may sponsor certain employment visas in line with company policy. Y Combinator considers qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state, and local law including San Francisco’s Fair Chance Ordinance. Y Combinator is committed to protecting the privacy of applicants’ personal information and complying with the California Consumer Privacy Act. Seniority level
