Overview
Transportation Construction Inspector
at HDR performs construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge projects in North Carolina, using NCDOT policies and procedures. The role involves materials testing, proper reporting and documentation, and reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies or conflicts and enforce contract documents. Work may be located throughout North Carolina, with efforts to place candidates near their geographic location in NC where possible.
Responsibilities
Perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects in North Carolina using NCDOT policies and procedures.
Conduct materials testing, reporting and documentation as required.
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies or conflicts and enforce contract documents.
Travel within North Carolina for meetings, site visits and inspections as needed.
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of experience inspecting transportation projects required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections
Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law
NCDOT experience preferred
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Management experience a plus
Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
A minimum of 3 years experience
Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
