Summary: The role of the Corrosion Specialist is to provide ongoing support to the Corrosion Technicians and their management within the field, in the performance of all corrosion-related duties and tasks. This position ensures the safe operation of company assets and the work environment and serves as a key component of field operations support. Position will be based in Edmond, Cushing, or Weatherford, Oklahoma, depending on the selected candidate’s location. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise, training, qualification evaluations and continuous guidance to Operations corrosion technicians and management. Provide technical expertise and guidance to Operations and Engineering for the design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the Company’s corrosion control/cathodic protection assets. Maintain advanced qualifications and experience in corrosion control topics, including: corrosion control regulations; integrity management regulations; external/internal/atmospheric corrosion monitoring and mitigation procedures; assessment and repair of pipeline defects. Offer technical support, training and qualification/evaluation of corrosion technicians; Design cathodic protection systems; knowledge of rectifiers, test points, bonds, close interval survey, and current demand; Work with corrosion control databases and field data collection devices; manage corrosion and pipeline data; specify contract corrosion control services; follow SOPs and Engineering Standards related to corrosion control. Analyze and resolve corrosion control issues involving multiple components, personnel, and operations; Document activities and inspections and review data for accuracy in reports; Interpret and apply company procedures with awareness of industry codes, standards and government regulations; Defend the company’s technical and procedural positions related to corrosion control activities and represent the company in agency audits, inspections, or enforcement actions. Support and QA/QC of work done by Area Corrosion Technicians, including: Technical support related to external corrosion control monitoring and mitigation (rectifiers, test points, bonds, close interval survey, current demand, etc.); Cathodic protection system design and installation (impressed current and galvanic anode systems; deep and shallow anode ground beds); Cathodic protection testing (interference testing and mitigation); Internal corrosion monitoring and mitigation (internal corrosion coupons, sampling, inhibitors and biocides); Atmospheric corrosion monitoring and mitigation (coating inspections and re-coating/painting specifications and oversight). Identify potential problems with procedures and train field personnel; monitor field activities for compliance with procedures. Develop, support and enforce department technical policies and procedures to maintain and operate pipeline systems; evaluate impact on manpower, safety, materials, equipment and expenses to meet reliability and performance goals. Design and develop training materials to instruct Area technical personnel; share materials across the Company and participate as an instructor; support Employee Qualification Program requirements. Assist in the development of annual O&M and capital budgets for the Operations department; provide input on maintenance scopes, cost estimates, and project feasibility; support capital projects through approval and completion. Participate in new facility design and commissioning; facilitate installation and modifications to meet functional requirements; coordinate commissioning with multiple groups including vendors, engineering, and field personnel. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below: High school diploma or equivalent with 6 years of experience in corrosion prevention and control programs for hazardous liquid and/or gas transmission and plant assets, or an Associate's degree in an engineering or technical field and six years of experience in corrosion control and energy pipeline context. NACE Certification Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) including formatting and formulas Preferred Qualifications
Experience with M.C. Miller ProActive corrosion database. Working Conditions
The work environment is usually normal office conditions. The role may require occasional overnight travel and visits to industrial/manufacturing settings with exposure to materials, chemicals, extreme temperatures and loud machinery; appropriate PPE is required. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
