Tesla Motors, Inc.
What to Expect
As an Equipment Engineer at Tesla, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing equipment for our advanced battery cell manufacturing processes. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to building a world-class manufacturing facility from the ground up in a fast-paced and demanding environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Quality, and Process teams, to take new products from initial design through prototype development to full production. Your work will involve optimizing equipment and processes, ensuring safety, and driving continuous improvements in a critical subsystem of innovative products.
What You'll Do
Drive ramp of new production lines by characterizing baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availability
Lead initiatives to improve safety and ergonomics of production equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices
Design, fabricate, install, and modify equipment improvements, including managing bidding and quoting processes
Collaborate with Controls Engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and optimize processes using PLC, HMI, or tool management software
Develop detailed maintenance instructions for complex and ambiguous repair tasks
Generate and maintain documentation including machine and process specifications, drawings, BOM, spare parts, PFMEA, control plan, process flow chart
Analyze production with statistical software (JMP or Minitab preferred) to understand manufacturing uptime, availability, and reliability metrics-yield, OEE, cycle time, quality and investigate bottlenecks to identify root cause and countermeasure to maximize throughput
Integrate machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience
Proven experience in ramping equipment into manufacturing, including automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, and motion controls
Experience in high volume manufacturing involving one or more of these areas is highly desired: Metal Forming, Component Feeding, ultrasonic welding, Laser Welding, Electrolyte Filling and Quality inspection
Experience developing operating and maintenance instructions and training operators
Extensive Proficiency with 3D (SolidWorks, 3Dx, Catia) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD) platforms
Preferred experience with layout creation, tooling drawings, pneumatic, and electrical schematics
Proven ability to operate under pressure while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
Compensation and Benefits Benefits
