Associate Electrical Engineer - Substation
Join Black & Veatch as an Associate Electrical Engineer focusing on high voltage substation design and execution for projects up to 765 kV. This role offers opportunities to deliver engineering design, protection, control, physical layout, and procurement materials for new asset and operating asset projects. Key Responsibilities
Perform substation detailed design including physical layout, protection, control, and auxiliary power systems. Develop protection and control deliverables such as relay panel wiring, one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and panel arrangements. Prepare physical design deliverables including yard layout, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems. Prepare equipment specifications and BOM for procurement and construction. Correspond with clients, vendors, and subcontractors and adhere to design budgets and schedules. Perform QA/QC responsibilities and support business development or pursuit activities. Travel to client and vendor offices and project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification. Preferred Qualifications
High voltage (HV) substation design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls Engineering‑in‑Training (EIT) Certification Proficient with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience. All applicants must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
