HDR, a leading provider of engineering services to the hydropower industry, is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our established team that is performing analysis and design of modifications for dams and other power infrastructure in the southeastern U.S. In the role of Geotechnical Engineer, we’ll count on you to: This position is subject to a preemployment drug test. Responsibilities
Perform dam safety inspections and complete the associated reporting, including support of FERC Comprehensive Assessments and risk assessments. Evaluate and report on dam safety instrumentation data for regulated dams. Prepare geotechnical analysis and design calculations and reports. Plan and oversee geotechnical field investigations and laboratory testing programs. Prepare design drawings and construction specifications. Participate in marketing efforts to both internal and external clients. Mentor younger staff in geotechnical engineering. Perform other duties as needed. This position is subject to a preemployment drug test. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in geotechnical or geological engineering UTEXAS experience Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog) Experience with dam safety inspections and dam engineering Experience reading, reviewing, and interpreting geotechnical instrumentation Experience reviewing and interpreting field and laboratory testing results Experience planning, performing, and documenting subsurface exploration and testing programs Experience performing seismic stability and deformation analysis of dams Experience evaluating stability of concrete gravity dams Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks effectively Ability to work independently on smaller projects and the desire to work on larger projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team Local candidates are preferred Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications, MicroStation or other software as appropriate Experience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage and deep foundation response software, as appropriate Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog) An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We Believe
