Job Summary Work collaboratively with special education teachers, support team, and school staff to understand the needs of students with special needs as specified in their Individualized Education Plans. Effectively assess, teach, and monitor skills needed to secure a post‑secondary opportunity, including employment.
Key Responsibilities
Be sensitive to the physical and learning styles of students with respect to identified disabilities.
Promote student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.
Recognize safety and health hazards and work to eliminate them.
Attend department meetings.
Work with the Director of Special Education and other staff members in curriculum development focused on the vocational needs of students.
Maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all can learn and succeed.
Communicate openly with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress.
Commit to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.
Interview and gather information about students to determine eligibility for services and feasibility of rehabilitation services.
Assume responsibility for an assigned caseload; gather and evaluate information on the customer’s medical, psychological and educational background.
Coordinate with IEP team, provide input regarding statement of needs and contribute to IEP goals.
Approve and monitor students’ placement and progress in training sites.
Maintain a continuous case‑finding program through screening and referral processes.
Develop and submit transition and PECT grants.
Provide in‑service training for pre‑vocational coordinators and other school personnel.
Attend local Transition Planning Committees and Transition Fair events.
Maintain records on students and update Transition Resource Directory for parents.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation, counseling, special education, or a closely related human services field.
Preferred: current Professional Educator License with LBS1 Endorsement.
Minimum of one year of experience in rehabilitation, special education, or closely related field; three or more years preferred.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Physical/Visual Demands Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, manual dexterity, talking, hearing and near visual acuity.
Environmental Conditions Standard office conditions; some activities may occur outdoors.
