Overview HDR is seeking to expand our national Trenchless Services team. The
Trenchless EIT/ Specialist
will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, with primary responsibilities supporting the execution of design and field services for trenchless projects, including engineering, design, and construction applications.
Responsibilities
Perform desk top route selection and evaluate feasibility for design and construction of trenchless crossings.
Carry out site reconnaissance visits.
Develop a subsurface investigation program to determine feasibility of construction for various trenchless installation methods.
Evaluate surface and subsurface conditions to determine feasibility of trenchless construction and preferred construction techniques.
Interface with discipline leads and production staff to support development of trenchless design deliverables; communicate frequently with project team members.
Communicate regularly with clients regarding project status and technical discussions related to trenchless construction applications.
Estimate quantities of materials and installation loading for trenchless pipeline installations.
Assess application of trenchless technologies (e.g., Horizontal Directional Drilling, microtunneling, tunneling, Direct Pipe) and participate in method selection.
Perform calculations to determine carrier pipe and coating specifications.
Define workspace requirements for construction equipment at trenchless crossing locations.
Prepare and/or review project documentation including specifications, bid packages, drawings, design reports, and data sets.
Build knowledge and use of software models for trenchless pipeline design.
Interface with project team members outside of the Trenchless Team on multidisciplinary projects.
Develop permit application documents and drawings.
Ensure documents, calculations, and reports comply with applicable industry standards and governing codes.
Prepare field engineering and as-built documents and provide field oversight as needed.
Concur in the definition/updating of department standards and procedures and capture lessons learned from projects.
Travel is required. Frequency and duration will depend on project needs and may be extensive at times.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Required:
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to being an active participant in a employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain, and C EIT designation; desire to pursue PE credentials (candidates hired without EIT may have the title of Specialist).
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, or related discipline.
Minimum two years of professional experience in consulting/engineering, with horizontal directional drilling, microtunneling, and/or Direct Pipe experience preferred.
Experience in trenchless design and knowledge of trenchless construction methods.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; team oriented with reliability and accountability.
Strong writing and computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel); experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines; self-motivated and able to work autonomously with regular communication with dispersed team members.
Experience working on projects in remote environments.

The compensation range for this position is referenced as part of HDR’s benefits and is based on experience and location. Targeted salary range: $75,000 - $85,000.
