The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients, following physician orders and established guidelines, within the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. The scope of practice for registered nurses depends on their education, experience, role, and the population served ( ANA, Scope and Standards of Practice, 2015, p 2 ). This position is part of the NSH Nursing Excellence Track (NEXT) Program. Level I nurses are competent and practice professionally across various clinical areas, actively participating in the Nurse Residency Program. Distinguishing Characteristics

Introduction to and mastery of policies, procedures, and guidelines with peer support. Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed as an RN in Georgia in good standing. Less than one year of RN experience. Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). Additional CPR certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS) as required by the unit. Refer to specific clinical unit for additional education, competencies, or certifications. Unit-specific Requirements

Bone Marrow Transplant & Critical Care:

ACLS certification within one year. Emergency Department:

Maintains ACLS certification. Gastro-Intestinal Lab:

Maintains ACLS if performing moderate sedation. Neurosciences:

ACLS for Neurovascular Intermediate care; Critical Care and Arrhythmia course preferred. Special Care Nurseries:

Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification. Surgical Services (OR & PACU):

Operating Room or PACU experience or relevant courses preferred. All areas: ACLS preferred. Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred. Other unit-specific attributes as applicable. Additional Details
