Northrop Grumman Space Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Department Manager to join our Engineering team within Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division in Roy, Utah or Huntsville, Alabama. What You’ll Get To Do The successful candidate will lead a department (typically 75-150 engineers) within the SDS Engineering organization and will report directly to a SDS Systems Engineering Director. Engineering departments may incorporate one or more of the following engineering disciplines: Core Systems, Nuclear Surety, Major Program Elements, Mission & Weapon Systems Engineering, Aerospace Vehicle Equipment, and/or Thread Leads/Thread Lead Supports. As a department manager, you will set operating objectives and provide leadership and mentorship to Functional Home Room (FHR) Section Managers (SMs) based on Engineering goals, objectives, and company policy. You will also provide oversight and assistance to multiple business areas within the division portfolio (currently Sentinel, ICBM Sustainment, and Advanced Programs), while providing the people, training, and processes for successful achievement of program goals. Additionally, department managers are responsible to plan for and manage risk, ensure project performance, schedule, and technical quality; and address technical or operational problems when necessary. Essential Functions Possess excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees Provide ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support business areas and programs in achieving their mission set Maintain accountability for recruiting, staffing, and retaining talent to deliver on business objectives Support proposal work, independent technical reviews, program standup and audits, and special assignments on an as-needed basis Own and lead improvements across employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention Mentor, develop, and train section managers and department employees Review and analyze engineering change data and coordinate changes with engineering, quality, support, and manufacturing Position Benefits Medical, Dental & Vision coverage Educational Assistance Life Insurance Employee Assistance Programs & Work/Life Solutions Paid Time Off Health & Wellness Resources Employee Discounts You’ll Bring These Qualifications Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of related experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope ( Minimum of 3 years in a formal management position, managing one or more engineering teams These Qualifications Would Be Nice To Have Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope. Active Sentinel Special Access Program (SAP) approval. Experience working on ICBM systems (e.g., MMIII or Sentinel) Proven performance as an Engineering Leader in all phases of acquisition, design, integration, and execution Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse team Familiarity with Agile engineering and Jira Experience creating or growing new sections or departments Working knowledge and/or experience across engineering disciplines Experience working with Air Force, government, and contractor personnel Familiarity with Air Force nuclear surety certification and regulatory requirements Understanding of Systems Engineering lifecycle and associated phases of development Understanding of model development/management using CAMEO or similar tool(s) Understanding of requirements development/management using DOORS or similar tool(s) Experience working in Engineering tools such as CPLM, ANSYS, NX, PSPICE, etc. Familiarity with the development of electrical, mechanical, or environmental systems Ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrated mentoring and guidance to engineers Northrop Grumman is an Equal Opportunity Employer, making decisions without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, national origin, age, veteran status, disability, or any other protected class.
